“Few big-band albums in recent memory have been more pleasurable to hear and evaluate than The Third Quarter. With Pierro's irrepressible charts setting the course and his masterful orchestra giving them life, the session fairly bristles with energy and enthusiasm, amplified by the dexterity and magnetism of Pierro's creative power. Easily recommended.” - Jack Bowers
The CD has begun to receive airplay in the Philadelphia area and on broadcast stations across the country. It can be heard on internet radio and nationally syndicated shows like Jazz After Hours. The Third Quarter has gotten an enthusiastic and positive response. It has been reviewed by and Jack Bowers and Edward Blanco at All About Jazz, Joe Lang for Jersey Jazz and Ross Boissoneau for Something Else! Special thanks to the Bucks County Community College Committee on Cultural Affairs for help funding part of this project.
I've been attending the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop since September of 2018 and as a result I have some new compositions/arrangements for big band. Most of my arrangements are available either on the Store page or at one of three sites. Check out J.W. Pepper, Marina Music or Sheet Music Plus.
I have two arrangements for big band available on the Store page titled No More, No Less and Fill In The Gap. The former is a jazz ballad featuring alto saxophone. It has been recorded and I also got a chance to hear it played by The Water Gap Jazz Orchestra. They sounded great and were pleased with the chart. The latter is the first tune on my new CD. They are based on an assignment given to me by Phil Woods. Unfortunately, he never got to hear them. That's what happens when you wait 30 years to do your homework. No More, No Less and Fill In The Gap are tributes to the master, Phil Woods.
